Hi there All Stars!! I'm so excited by a conversation we had with a landowner here in Calais who is willing to share his beautiful property with the rest of us, in the form of a Park and Ride so we can have more effective mass transit systems. His thoughtfulness and generosity were inspiring!! There are many more conversations to be had, lots of questions to answer -- but we just keep going. One foot in front of the other. This morning was a happy one! I wanted to share it with all my fellow Vermontivators! We can change the world, we just have to keep at it.

Maybe we can make a VTVT All Stars challenge -- march in a parade, get so many points ... create a sign, more points ... shoot a video, even more points!! And also write about why it matters!

All-Stars! Summer is almost here! That means Fourth of July parades in lots of Vermont towns! Wouldn't it be awesome to have a united Vermontivate contingent in some of the good parades, like Montpelier and Warren? Where else? Who wants to be part of this?

I'm so pleased to share, Team Calais has our first confirmed participant for our Fall Foliage Energy Fair -- Green Mountain Power will come and share info on cold climate heat pumps, home solar batteries, etc. Yay!!! All you Vermontivators will of course be welcome to join us, with open arms and happy faces!!

Thanks to a VTVT challenge I finally had storm windows made for my house, it's been on my list for almost 5 years! I test fitted them today and can tell they're going to make a huge difference! I had had to drop off my screens to have the storms made, so I'm now glad to have hem back so I can sleep with the windows open to feel the breeze and better hear the owls!

Hello, All Stars! I could use some suggestions. For the Challenge about growing food and giving it to someone, I gave my husband spearmint and my son cilantro, and got myself some basil. The problem is that we have lots and lots of deer where I live. I have been keeping the plants on the front porch and trying to remember to move them around as the sun comes in under the porch roof at different angles, but that's not working too well and the plants aren't doing too well. Anybody got an ideas for me short of putting up a 6' high fence to keep the deer out?

Deer are scared off by something new for a little bit. I have tried garlic sticks, a spray of hot pepper and garlic, coyote and/or human pee, pinwheels, netting, fishing line, CDs on string, planting black eyed susans, and charging at them when they are IN the garden. I've heard of people hanging soap and pie tins, and running a radio too. Deer can jump a ten foot barbed wire fence from a stand-still, so small sections of fencing that is hard to land in is sometimes more effective. Good luck! >^.^<

Hello All-Stars! I am also planting, planting, planting. Well, and hauling hay and compost and manure and such to feed the soil. We have a lot of garden space, and grow a lot of food. One interesting thing - we grow shiitake mushrooms on logs we cut from our property. We sell both the inoculated logs and the mushrooms themselves. We are giving a free workshop on Saturday, May 16, if anyone is interested in learning more about mushroom cultivation. We will be inoculating (with participants help) 50 logs in the morning and 50 in the afternoon. We have three slots open at 10:00 a.m., and one slot at 1:00 p.m. If you are interested, let me know!

Good morning All-Stars! Vermontivate has motivated me to work harder this year to grow a lot more of our family's food. Yesterday we worked hard to reclaim an area filled with overgrown bushes and weeds. This is a very long potential garden bed (it was once a cattle trough, @ 50 ' long!!). We got one section cleaned out and filled back up with compost, and then planted peas. How bout you all? What are you motivated to do? How can we help one another?

I'm eating and serving more meatless meals. I'm walking more instead of driving. I'm switching to LED light bulbs. I'm trying to grow some of our food, but see my other post - there'a an obstacle.
