Team Calais is doing amazing!! I am so proud to be part of such an energetic bunch accomplishing so much! The two short-term goals we are working on are planting Hazelbert trees out behind our local community center (MCCC), and working towards building a community root cellar. Here's where we've progressed on the two so far:
With much internet and word of mouth research we've settled on Hazelbert Trees - a cross between Hazelnuts and Filberts. They grow well in this climate, the nuts are delicious and easy to crack by hand, if planted right they can form a great hedge row, and we can potentially have nuts in 3-5 years! We hosted an event at the MCCC to look at the spot and see what made sense. The event was attended by 8 teammates including Neal Neal Banana Peal who is the Calais Tree Warden. At this meeting we were able to get a good idea of what we want and steps to get there.
At that same meeting we looked at 4 spots in two different basements, including the MCCC and the home of teammate Happiness Lady, who lives right next door to the MCCC. We decided we needed a more professional opinion so a few days later we met with a local root cellar expert to help us decide how to move forward. The video'd results of that meeting will be posted soon.
I'm going to use the Trees goal for this challenge, but my energy's will be focused on both:-)
Our team is amazing! Each time I think of something that needs doing I post it and someone steps up! And same happens when other folks think of things we need to do. I am so inspired by my team, I just love working with them! We have most tree planting details all set, I'm very excited for this event. I'm hoping our vtvt team continues to work together throughout the year, they are so fabulous!
