We've been working together to learn more about our environment and ways we can do our part to help...these are some of our team's goals. We discuss some of the changes we are making in our daily lives and how little things make big differences. These are both goals and accomplishments for our team.
To go further, we need to develop one project to work on at our school.
I need to speak further with the rest of the team to see which project they would like to focus on more.
We could develop our school gardens more...maybe add greenhouses so we could grow veggies and herbs more during the school year. For that we would need to develop a way to heat the greenhouses that would be environmentally sound and low cost. I know some local farmers that use greenhouses have a heating system that involves using recycled cooking oil....that may work.
We have thought about solar panels for reducing our electricity/carbon footprint....but ran into some problems with the small size of our school and the amount of power the solar cells will produce. I still like the idea of vertical farming using the existing space within our school building....but like I said we need to discuss which direction everyone wants to move in as a team a bit more. I'll get back to you later this week.
One of our main goals was to work together, discuss challenges, and learn about our planet and what we couldveach do to help. We were successful in this in that we have worked steadily together, we have learned a lot, and our discussions are full of new ideas from VTVT.
We have also learned a great deal about what each of us can do to make small changes in our lives that will support lowering our fossil fuel footprint.
The students did a fabulous job encouraging each other as well as people playing on other teams. They have not complained eventhough working on challenges was difficult on their ipads, they methods to "make it work" and everyone stayed positive.
We are trying to develop a project for the school to work on together after VTVT---looks like it may be greenhouses for us to use to grow veggies year round at our school. We are still working out the details.
