I managed to use only one paper towel throughout the day yesterday (at home, prepping food in the morning and cooking in the evening)! It was no easy task, but worked out fine because it dried quickly and it's durable! We also try our hands with an absorbant hand-towel that I wash once a week - which works just fine!
Do the Paper Towel Challenge
When a class in a Brattleboro evening care facility did this challenge during Vermontivate! 2012, they so drastically reduced the amount of paper towel use in their classroom that they were able to change the size of their waste bin from big to small.
Thirteen billion pounds of paper towels are used by Americans every year - mostly because people aren't thinking when they dry their hands. That's too much, but it's not hard to fix...
- Go to Resources and watch Joe Smith's charming TED talk about reducing paper towel use.
- Give it a shot! Does it work for you - or at least change how you think about drying your hands?
