If Americans made one 4-mile round-trip by bike instead of car each week, we'd burn nearly 2 billion fewer gallons of gas annually. At $3.64 a gallon, that's a savings of $6.6 billion.

Whether you go by bike to save on gas and money, get exercise or to help save the planet, it's always a great idea.

1.  Figure out why you choose to go by bike.
2.  Find a friend or two (or more) to join you.
3.  Conduct a regular trip (to work, the store, the movies, etc.) with your new riding buddies.
4.  Snap some photos or videos of the trip.
