My brother-in-law takes great pride in his house and also manages his money carefully, so he was happy to have me come over to do the Treasure Hunt at his house. I was pleasantly surprised to find that his already has many energy-saving measures in place. He kept the list so that he can use it to make his home even more sustainable. I know he'll be changing to LED light bulbs - and that's just or starters!
Energy Challenge #4
Energy treasure everywhere! Go on a hunt with a friend to find their home's energy treasures!
A 1967 study found that on average there are less "6 degrees" of separation between any two people in the US. A 2011 a new study showed that we're getting better connected to eachother and it only took 4.74. Wonder what VT's number would be? 3? less?
Most people know that they can save money and energy, but sometimes it takes a friend showing up to help them out to get them to take action.
- Find a willing participant. Nobody likes a pushy energy evangelist!
- Set up a date where you can spend a couple of hours walking through their home with the checklist, and come up with a few easy actions for them to take. Shoot a few pix while you're at it!
- Check back and make sure they've done it! If they haven't, now it's time to be pushy! Help them out! Take them to the hardware store. Show up with power strips!
- Let us know what happened.
If you can't find anyone to help, put out an offer on Front Porch Forum to go help a neighbor, or write a letter to the editor sharing your favorite energy-saving tips. Let us know what you did!
