Help us spiff up Button-Up Day.
Did you know...
Most homes have so much air leakage that it's the equivalent of having a basketball-sized hole in your wall.
In Vermont, the first Saturday in November is Button-Up Day. It's a chance for Vermonters to take a little time to put on storm windows, seal cracks, add some insulation, and generally weatherize their homes for the winter. The problem is that it's hard to get people to participate. It's not a visible event like Green-Up Day where you have lots of people out on the roads picking up trash. Also, a lot of people don't know what weatherizing their home means, or they think it'll cost too much money, or they don't think they've got the skills... The Organizers have asked Vermontivate! for help making Button-Up Day more fun, and so now we're asking you! Share your best, most creative, most Vermontivacious ideas for increasing participation and helping people save money on heat and stay warm all winter.
- Check out the Button Up website (listed in Resources) to learn more about the day and what it means to Button Up your home.
- Share your ideas for spreading the word and increasing participation. This is a crowd-sourced brainstorm, so nothing is too crazy or out there!
- Feel free to imagine a one or two-week version of Vermontivate! in late October that's all about buttoning up your home. How might that work?
- We can't wait to hear your ideas!
There was a video contest for Button-Up 2014, and this exquisite little number by Henry Putney was the winner!
