Energy Challenge #1

Challenge Complete

Quick! Save as much energy as you can in one day. Try a 24-hour Energy Save-A-Thon.

For our  24-hour Energy Save-a-thon the 4th grade class at BJAMS chose to do without overhead lights and the overhead projector on Friday the 17th of April. We often have the lights off during part of the day because some students find the artificial lights too bright. Of course the day we decide to go without lights completely started out overcast. The students felt like they were in a cave at the beginning of the day. However, with the shades up we were able to see just fine. I think we all got to the point where we did not even notice the lack of artificial light. Besides, not lights in the classroom gave us an excuse to have snack and lunch outside :) The choice to give up the overhead was a little harder because I use the overhead projector for "brain breaks." Once again, warm temperatures and decreasing cloud coverage helped. My students love to be outside....even more than watching videos like Going Green. Check out the photo of the light swith turned off and the projector turned off.
